CBT & Solution Focused Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions are connected.  The negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.  CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by break them down into smaller parts.

CBT is focused on dealing with current issues impacting your day-to-day life rather than exploring the past.

It looks for practical ways to improve your state of mind on a daily basis.  It can be useful for dealing with a range of issues such as:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Panic Attacks
  • Social Anxiety
  • Body Dysmorphia & Image Related Issues
  • Health Anxiety
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Chronic Pain
  • Distorted Eating Habits
  • Anger Management

As your counsellor, I will work with you to identify and track your thoughts, feelings and actions in relation to your personal life challenges.  We will reflect on these in sessions to help you understand yourself better and to validate the evidence of your unhelpful and negative thoughts.  How realistic is the way you feel and how does this behaviour impact your day-to-day life?

The aim is to work with you to change and alter your negative thoughts so that you have a more rational way of thinking.  This can be useful to minimise stress and anxiety and help you regulate your emotion better.  Other exercises include exposure therapy and mindful and relaxation exercises.  CBT is normally shorter-term counselling but can be combined with long term talking therapy.

Bereavement Therapy

I am a trained Bereavement counsellor and did my training at Harrow Bereavement Care.  I have a great deal of counselling experience supporting clients with grief, loss and separation.  Going through bereavement is a journey and I always let clients know that grief can impact us all differently.

Allow yourself self-compassion and self-care during moments of loss until you reach a stage of acceptance.  Grief can hit us at any time and even when you find yourself in a more peaceful place, your grief can be suddenly triggered by a memory, a photo or situation.  I offer a safe space for clients to talk candidly about their feelings of loss and want to assure you that I am here to contain your grief no matter what.

I have worked with clients who have also experienced a sense of shame and embarrassment due to struggling to grieve for a close relative or friend.  This is perfectly natural, and we all process loss and bereavement in different ways.  Feelings such as anger, shock and denial are the early stages of grieving and it’s during these times, that it can feel difficult to accept the reality of your loss.  Having undergone bereavement, myself, I can connect and understand the gravity of losing someone close to you.

Talking Therapy

I offer talking therapy to enable clients to feel heard and valued.  Talking therapy is an effective way of having a safe space to process difficult emotions and confront unresolved trauma and past feelings.

Talking therapy can help increase your self-awareness, provide insight into your behaviour patterns, and empower you to make changes if you feel ready to.

I specialise in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, anger issues, body image issues, relationship struggles, divorce, dating challenges, low self-esteem, neurodiverse challenges, bereavement and gender, sexuality and identity issues.

Dating Coaching

As someone who has experienced trauma after going through a divorce, I know first-hand how challenging it can feel to trust and date someone new.  There is a fear of being betrayed, abandoned, or rejected.  I feel that it’s important to work on yourself first before you take the plunge and dive straight into a new relationship.  If you date someone to soon after your divorce, it may be for all the wrong reasons.  I always recommend that you take time out after a divorce to allow yourself to heal and grow before you consider embarking on a new relationship.

As a dating coach, I can work with you to improve your self-confidence and self-esteem and want to empower you to feel the best version of yourself when you are dating. I offer a six-week dating coaching program which consists of the following:

Dating Coaching Six Week Program

SESSION 1: This session focusses on exploring your self-esteem, self-concept and idealised self.

SESSION 2: Exploring your attachment style in relationships, exploring past unresolved feelings and how they may impact or influence future interactions.

SESSION 3: Examining your dating goals and expectations from your future partner. Exploring and addressing your fears and inhibitions around dating.

SESSION 4: Creating your dating profile and exploring dating sites to find out which site is suitable for you.

SESSION 5: Building emotional resilience to deal with feelings of rejection and disappointment around dating.  To focus on coping techniques and self-care.

SESSION 6: Understanding the dating language.  Building and developing your communication, self-confidence, and self-esteem. This session could involve doing role play and chair exercises to enable you to feel your most confident self.

The experience of dating can feel like a minefield.  I should know as I have been through it myself.  The important thing to remember is that it takes time before you meet someone who fulfils your personal needs and expectations.  It can feel like hard work but having emotional resilience and self-confidence can make the dating process fun and less stressful.

If you are someone who wants dating coaching, I suggest contacting me to book an initial free consultation on Zoom.  This is a great way for us to connect and to identify your dating goals and objectives.  I can develop a bespoke coaching program that is catered to your personal needs.  I want to emphasise I am not a miracle worker but just having someone by your side to reflect, offer your perspective and insight can make the dating process easier.
